Three Reasons Why Your Customers Will Appreciate QDirect’s New Barcoding Feature

Every time RSA introduces a new version of its software, it creates another reason for partners to engage with existing customers and prospects. And that’s exactly what’s happening with the new release QDirect, the company’s output management software for enterprise in-plants and commercial printers.

All thanks to a new barcoding feature.

Let’s look at three reasons why this new barcoding feature will capture the attention of your customers and prospects.

Reason #1: Automating Post-Print Production

The barcoding feature automates and optimizes post-print production to initiate finishing tasks, eliminating the need for manual intervention. Your commercial print and in-plant customers will appreciate how they can now automate finishing tasks such as cutting and folding using barcodes. For example, post-printing equipment such as finishers can be directed by the barcode to produce a specific number of booklets. As the finisher recognizes the barcode, it automatically runs the job, eliminating the need for manual programming. What’s not to like about that?

Don’t forget to inform customers and prospects that the new version of QDirect further enhances workflow when used with the latest versions of RSA’s WebCRD web-to-print software and ImpactVDP, the variable data printing module included in WebCRD.

Reason #2: Streamlining Mail Operations

Barcodes can also streamline a customer’s CCM (Customer Communication Management) operations by initiating mailing insertion, which also allows for increased accuracy and better job tracking. Barcodes can tell the insertion equipment which piece should go into the envelope or identify how many pages are associated with the pieces being printed. If it's a credit card bill, for example, the barcode will direct the device to add the bill, and any other documents that should be included in the envelope.

This is an intelligent feature, so if it's a run of 1,000 statements, the software will look at each page and determine where the statement begins. Depending on the requirements of the job, it will scrape information off the page and embed it into the barcode. This capability is especially beneficial for mailing, auditing, and tracking purposes. Of course, this is all done automatically, which should resonate with customers and prospects who want to reduce errors, better manage jobs, and enhance their overall mailing operations.

Reason #3: Gain Greater Efficiency from Existing Equipment

Many print shops replace old hardware, but often fail to maximize the full potential of their new equipment. The barcode feature comes to the rescue here. Although it requires some user configuration, shops that previously used old-school Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) for data collection from paper sheets can now enhance their capabilities by adding a more detailed barcode.

In the past, old-school OMR typically consisted of three or four bars on the side of the page, offering limited job-related information. QDirect’s barcoding feature can either replace these old OMR marks or

instruct the equipment to disregard them while adding a more advanced barcode to facilitate additional job processing so that the print shop can maximize the use of its new equipment.

Just as important, these barcoding features are hardware agnostic, eliminating issues related to any outdated or proprietary barcodes added to the original document composition.

Ready, Set, Sell

For customers looking to add functionality to the final stages of their post-print production, the new release of QDirect with the barcoding feature should be a welcome addition, ensuring that post-print operations progress smoothly and efficiently.
